Dear K.T. Murphy Families:
We would like to offer a warm welcome to all our K.T. Murphy family: our students, parents, teachers, supporting staff, and community members.
We are honored, energized, and ecstatic to begin the new year. We are honored because K.T. Murphy Elementary has such a rich history dating back to 1900, when it was originally called the Cove School. Katherine T. Murphy worked as a teacher in this building, and became Principal in 1913. Almost a century later, we feel privileged to follow in her footsteps.
We are energized because we are now embarking on a new era. To put it into perspective, our incoming 5th Graders will graduate college in the year 2023, while our incoming Kindergarteners will graduate in 2028. Although things have changed since 1900, and will continue to change beyond 2028, our partnership will continue to be a mainstay in your child’s success. The spirit of perseverance and a hard work ethic is a timeless value that will ground our work.
It goes without saying, that, the work towards your child’s success is the most important job we will undertake. It is based on this mantra, that we will establish high expectations and foster a partnership of mutual respect.
We are ecstatic because we have some great momentum at our school in terms of academic achievement, and parent/community involvement. Although our school is much more than a standardized test score, we recognize that this is a helpful academic benchmark. We are continuing to see growth in reading and math scores across our grade levels. We are fortunate to have an active PTO organization that has profoundly contributed to the benefit of this school.
Our work ahead of us is great, and yet it is another opportunity that will bear many accomplishments. We will need your continued participation and involvement to build on our momentum, and maintain our level of achievement. I look forward to partnering with you in this great endeavor.
