K.T. Murphy has enjoyed a partnership with GE Capital for over 15 years. Over the years, this partnership has provided our students with many special opportunities such as our pen pal (ePal) program, one-on-one tutoring, field trips, participation in our Summer Academy, and many classroom and school wide activities.
In 1999, in collaboration with GE Capital and other community organizations, K.T. Murphy was the recipient of a 5-year grant. This collaboration, "Kids to College" (K2C), provides support for our school's technological needs, strives to improve students' global awareness and learning, and entitles K.T. Murphy graduates to help with their college costs as long as they meet the specified criteria.
In 2005, K.T. Murphy received a sustainability grant to continue this collaboration for an additional two years. Although we are unsure of what the future holds, GE will provide college scholarships to K.T. Murphy graduates through the Class of 2017.
General Electric Company also continues to support the Tutor Program. Currently 15 K.T. Murphy students in grades 2 through 5 meet weekly with a GE employee. These sessions are spent preparing the students for the Connecticut Mastery Test. In addition, our ePal Program entitles all 4th and 5th grade students to correspond via email with a GE employee once a month, with a culminating picnic held at GE at the end of the year. Our Summer Academy is a GE sponsored program that targets certain grade levels in a 5-week, 3-hour-a-day, CMT Prep Course. We have also been very fortunate to have the help of GE to hold our All School Field Trips. Past trips have included Cove Island Park in Stamford, as well as The Children's Museum and the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk. Where will our fabulous All School Field Trip take us this year???
GE continues to sponsor K.T. Murphy in many other events including numerous after-school activities as well as our very popular, Family Math Night. These opportunities would not be possible without the generosity of GE's sponsorship and the incredible dedication of their employees. For more information on the K2C program, please contact our K2C Coordinator, Nicole Carpenter, at 977-5912.
